EASTON, Mass. - The Long Island University women's basketball team (15-8, 10-2 NEC) extended its winning streak to four games on Saturday afternoon, defeating Stonehill College 69-57 on the road.
The Sharks never trailed in Saturday's win, holding a 17-13 lead after the first 10 minutes of play. Aided by a 13-7 scoring run to close out the second quarter, LIU took a 37-24 lead into the locker room at halftime. LIU outscored the Skyhawks 20-11 in Saturday's second quarter to build its double-digit lead.
Stonehill cut the LIU lead to eight points coming out of halftime, but the Sharks responded with a 12-0 scoring run to extend its lead to 20 points with 6:33 remaining in the third quarter. With a significant lead, the Sharks maintained their double-digit advantage through the remainder of the game before earning their eventual 12-point win.
Senior Kadidia Toure posted game highs in both points (21) and rebounds (17), the latter of which was a new career-high. Joining Toure in finishing the game scoring in double figures was junior Janessa Williams (18 points), graduate student Hannah Humphrey (13), and graduate student Kionna Gaines (11).
LIU returns to Brooklyn to face off against the University of New Haven at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 14.
