LIU field hockey head coach
Raenee Savin added Alicia Govannicci to her staff as an assistant coach in August of 2021. A standout player at Rider University, Govannicci joined LIU after spending a season as an assistant coach at LaSalle University.
"We're so excited to have Coach Govannicci join our program," Savin said. "She has great experience as both a coach and a player. Alicia knows Northeast Conference field hockey, and will be a real asset in helping our program get better. She is a fantastic addition to our Shark family!"
Prior to her time with the Explorers, Govannicci spent time at Central Michigan as a graduate assistant. While there, she assisted in all aspects of the program and helped the Chippewas to a strong academic showing that landed them three NFHCA Scholars of Distinction.
Prior to CMU, she served as an assistant coach at Immaculata University in 2018 and has coached at the club and high school levels since 2012.
As a player, Govannicci was a three-time All-Northeast Conference selection for the Broncs. She scored the lone goal in the 67th minute of a 1-0 victory over Monmouth in the NEC title game, advancing the team to the NCAA Tournament as a freshman. Over four years, her teams went a combined 63-19 and earned three NCAA Tournament berths.
Govannicci graduated from Rider in 2014 with a degree in psychology and elementary education, and has a master's degree in sports administration from Central Michigan.
